Missakian was born in Alexandria, Egypt, and has lived in Montreal since 1962.
Having first graduated from Cornell University in New York, he subsequently completed his education at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Concordia University.
It is
through painting that the artist communicates his own vision of the world. He paints landscapes, jazz scenes and still life.
Missakian's cubist paintings invite the viewer into a wonderful world of color and motion, often inspired by the throbbing
tempo of jazz that continuously haunts his studio.Boldly painted in vivid fauve colours, the strokes are linear but always casual and fluid. His whimsical work blends elements of Matisse, Picasso, Braque and Chagall in such a personal way that they become
both an homage as well as a signature style for him.
Missakian's works have generated numerous solo exhibitions nationally and internationally and can be found in many private and corporate collections across the United States, Canada, Europe,
Australia, Japan and the Middle East.
Currently living and working in Montreal, this contemporary artist is listed in Who's Who in American Art and Biennial Guide to Canadian Artists.
