Peter Holmes

Peter Holmes was born in Winchester, Hampshire, England, in 1943.

He became interested in drawing and painting at school, working mostly mostly in watercolours. He was part of a small group chosen to design and paint a mural for his school's vestibule.

The young artist studied drawing and design at Southampton Technical College.

He emigrated to Canada in 1965, living in Toronto for two years before relocating to Vancouver.

New to the west coast, he was enthralled by the light, mountains, mist and sea, and has lived in the area since then. He has explored the region extensively, much of it by hiking, cycling and walking.

In 1975, he took up growing orchids and has exhibited in many plant shows in British Columbia, Washington state, Oregon and Japan.

He moved to West Vancouver in 1986.

After painting watercolours, Holmes started using acrylics in 1992. He has painted some abstracts, but has concentrated mostly on landscapes, attempting to catch the fleeting affects of light.

In 1994, his works were accepted in the juried Harmony Arts Festival group show in West Vancouver. All of the paintings sold.

Holmes' paintings are in private and corporate collections in Canada and
Europe.

The beauty of the natural scenery in southwestern British Columbiapresents
an ongoing challenge, and Peter Holmes constantly seeks new subjects and ways to express how he feels about them.
