Roger was born in London, Ontario in 1954 and now resides in the interior of British Columbia. Artistic talent runs in his family on both sides. His uncle, who lived in Holland, was an exceptional artist who reproduced Rembrandts.
Throughout his
school years, Roger was the finest art student in every class, receiving top marks since the early grades. When he was 11 years old, the family moved to Vancouver, BC. Being impressed by the beautiful mountain scenery, he began painting it using
watercolours, and later, in oils.
He took private training from a friend, the late David Young, a noteworthy, physically challenged artist who painted with his mouth. David helped him with professional composition and colour-mixing.
He also
received further invaluable training in the Rembrandt style when visiting his uncle in Holland. This has resulted in his applying the quality of original European styles to handling the North American alpine beauty. Yet, Roger has maintained his style –
he paints subjects that existin reality, striving to capture the immense beauty that exists in the Rockies and Cascade Range.
Roger's paintings are in private and corporate collectors in Canada, U.S.A., England, Netherlands, Switzerland, Peru, and
Indonesia.
